Question: Our wedding is at 2 pm but our reception is at 6:30 pm. We have quite a few out of town guests.

Answer:
Sometimes, the times between the ceremony and the reception can be a bit long. It is best to line up a couple of alternative activities for your guests while you are taking pictures, getting your reception site ready, etc.

Since many of your guests are from out of town, how about introducing them to your city? You could have city maps printed up with interesting places to visit circled. You could even arrange for transportation to show them “the sites.”

You could also check on current happenings in your city: afternoon theater performances, museum exhibits, an afternoon ball game, theme park passes; all places that will certainly entertain your guests before your reception.

Question: My dress is very formal, but my fiancé doesn’t want to wear a tuxedo.

Answer: The wedding attire depends on the time of day that you are getting married and the venue where you are getting married at. Weddings held after 4:30 pm are generally formal affairs. A wedding taking place at a beach at sundown however would not have the same attire as one in a formal, elegant church.

Please keep in mind the time of day, your ceremony site and how your pictures will look. If your dress is very formal, then having your fiancé in a shirt and slacks will make your pictures less formal and ruin the effects of your dress and the overall mood of the pictures.

Question: I want to invite all of our friends and family to our reception but our budget is very limited for the bar.

Answer:
Congratulations for recognizing that your reception is a very special occasion and wanting to make sure that your guests are well taken care of!

A reception is for the comfort and enjoyment of your guests. Since this is your first party as man and wife, you want it to be memorable. Instead of asking your guests to purchase their own drinks, how about limiting the kinds of drinks served? Soda, beer, and wine should be enough for any wedding. If you absolutely feel that more alcohol should be served, then how about creating a signature drink to serve with the other beverages? Giving your guests options can be affordable for you and enjoyable for them!
