I was visiting Ben in Virginia Beach where he was stationed in the Navy. We had finished watching a movie when he suggested we go down to the beach. It was after 10 pm, but the beaches there are open very late. I'd never seen the ocean up close before. We walked along the beach, hand in hand, watching the waves roll against the shore. It was July 8th, and I guess someone had extra fireworks because a couple miles down the shore, someone was shooting off fireworks. He sat down and I laid my head in his lap. He told me I was beautiful and special, and to never believe anyone who told me different. I said that I really liked hearing him say those things, and he replies, "Well, how do you like hearing this: Will you marry me?" It was the most romantic moment of my life. He slid the rock of the century onto my finger and I knocked him into the sand. I can't imagine anything better.
